West African mediators give Mali junta a year transition period

West African mediating group in the Malian crisis have given the military junta a maximum of twelve months to transition to civilian rule again.

In a briefing to the current Nigerian President, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan stated the resolution of the ECOWAS group, saying that the region would accept a transitional government led by a civilian or a retired army officer for a maximum of 12 months.

Two weeks ago, soldiers stirred an insurrection on the streets of Bamako, as they marched through the capital and arrested President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita

Tens of thousands 0f Malians took to the streets of Bamako to celebrate the ousting of the President to the chagrin of the global community that condemned the actions of the soldiers.
